Courses

One of the objectives of the Aceh Research Training Institute is to train individual researchers to undertake high-quality, relevant research. The expanded research training is three-tiered and brings together Indonesian and international academics to work in partnership with academics in Aceh.

Level One

This first level aims to introduce participants to the basic concepts of quality research. At the end of the course, participants will be able to differentiate between a variety of common research methods. For each of these methods, participants will be acquainted with the characteristics necessary to ensure reliable results. Finally, they will be trained to interpret the meaning of the outcome of each of these methods.

Level Two

The second level of training aims to transfer an in-depth understanding of research methods to a selection of fellows who have proven to be talented and committed researchers. At the end of the course participants will be able to select the best research methods for any research project and interpret and analyse the results to make a coherent and valid conclusion.

Each Level Two course has a specific theme relevant to the Acehnese context. The course includes two weeks of course work and consultations with lecturers, followed by three weeks in which participants prepare their research proposals, with the opportunity for further consultations with course lecturers.

Courses cover: approaches to proposal writing; research methodologies; data collection and analysis; writing literature reviews; concepts and trends in literature within the particular field of study; sharing of research experiences in the field; guest speakers; participant presentations; one-on-one mentoring from course coordinators and guest speakers.

Level Three

Level three of the training aims to consolidate the analytical and methodological skills introduced in the first two levels through applied research. At the end of these courses the participants (fellows) will be confident in defining a realistic hypothesis, research budgeting, applying research methods in the field, planning and managing research implementation, analyzing results and writing research reports. The results of the research will then be presented in seminars to their peers
